Would Knifefish be a good beginner Monster class?

As long as they relies most get big and need a 200+ gal tank. I would say they are easy to take care of and are a beautiful fish to watch when they come out of hiding.

Many would consider them a difficult fish to care for, I highly dissagree. I have a Black Ghost Knife and all that it requires to care for him is a little patience while feeding him and they have great personality. If you are looking to get a large knifefish either get an Aba Aba Knife or a Clown Knife as far as i know they are the biggest ones. I also suggest buying them small, so that you can watch them grow. When I bought mine he was only 3 inches long now it is about 8 inches, a little less than half way.

Best beginner Knife would be an African Brown Knife. Due to size and temperament, they would be the best to start with.

depends what knife your really talking about but i think for the most part all the clownknife species are strong at adapting so as long as u know your gettin a fat tank and like to overfiltrate then your all good ;) a + if your down for planting your tank.

As a whole no.

Some get huge (like clowns).

Some are mean as hell (p. afer, aba aba)

Some are really sensitive (glass knives)

Some are a pain in the butt to get off feeders (at least for a beginner).

IMO, a lot of hte species are not for beginners
:iagree:
