Would large pacu eat firemouth cichlid?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Pacus are technically suppose to be herbivores, but I've seen them go for feeders before. So my answer is yes...it can eat a smaller fish. How "large" is the Pacu?

i agree ^ it depends on the size... i've had a 14-16" pacu that has eaten 3-5" cichlids. so i would be careful on the tankmates. i got my pacu already grown out so i had know idea it was that way. . . unfortunate

My pacu decided they were going to eat my 7" freshwater drum..so can they..yes. Tho my pacu do cohabitat with 2 chiclids 3" and 5" and dont bother them at all. For some reason they just decided they didn't like that particular fish

I don't have a pacu yet. My firemouths are about 3 1/2" now and will grow to 6"-7".

unless you have or will 110% be able to get an extremely large tank, i would keep it as you not having a pacu. trust me....

stick to cichlids.pacus get big and ugly.take too much space.

Maybe one's you are familar with....Not all are....Some people actually care Pacu...

I tend to find that my Pacu will not bother other smallers fish-Only when the smaller fish will instigate-Then Pacu will put said fish into it's place in the pecking order...

Pacu does have the ability to eat a smaller fish though......
