I really really want to get my 90 set up. I plan to stock it with 1 red tiger oscar and probably 5-7 clown loaches.

but I have this gremlin whispering into the back of my mind saying: "why bother? Once Christmas comes around they'll just die anyway" Well will they? Its expected of me that I go visit my family for 2 weeks over Christmas. Could I possibly somehow keep this tank running for 2 weeks unattended? I don't have anyone that could look after it during that time. Part of me wants to get this tank set up and the other part thinks they'll just die during Christmas.

I managed to run my 20g for a full month untended without a single death but I've never tried it with bigger fish.

Any thoughts?

if just oscar and loaches then i say they be fine just give them some nice feedings the previouse week but dont over do it, just get them fat.

let me konw if your adding any others and i let you know. but generaly predators tend to be able to fast for long periods when healthy. but smaller fish like tetras and any type that kinda fits in that group need more frequent feeding but depends how big tank is and live stock density and natural food in the tank. black worms will live for a long time in freshwater tanks so try putting an ounce in before you leave just make sure there alive.

If you set the 90g up now and stock it after cycling the oscar will put on some good size by x-mas and the clowns will have grown a lil too so they'll prolly be ok fasting for that amount of time.

I was worried when I left two 7-8in gulper cats untended for two weeks but they were fine, if a lil more aggressive when I fed them again. You'd prolly be fine doing a big water change and cleaning your filters in tank water maybe a couple days before you go to make sure everything is fine after.

In one of my other tanks with a bunch of convict fry I dropped in a two week plaster feeding puck and they turned out fine too.

i agree with everything cept with water change a couple days before. if he dose one i say a week previous or earlier if he cleans filter. dont want a nitrate spike when hes gone. he be able to monitor it for alitte before he leaves at least.
