I sae this at Walmart and I thought it would be pretty handy for water changes. It's 5 gallons and I could just remove the lid for a filter, heater, and light. Thoughts on this? I'm not planning on setting something like this up anytime soon. But I'm mainly just curious.

Only use I can think of is for breeding snails or other small feeders. That said, I can’t see it being better than a regular tank for that purpose.

I was thinking it would very useful for water changes with the dispenser and all

It’s more of the shape that causes a problem - not many animals besides inverts. I’d be worried about accidentally pouring ornamental creatures out the whole.
Breeding something like scuds or using it to grow phytoplankton could work though, as they would be poured out in the spout for harvesting.

The spout will eventually leak and even more prone to leaks once the container is set up with substrate, critters and debris getting into the spout preventing a good seal.

Yeah, I was thinking that would be the main problem.
