So I just had an awesome idea.
Would it be possible for me to keep a wild caught bluegill or pumpkinseed with my store bought tropicals? Yes, I realize that many tropicals are wildcaught (and i know for a fact that at least one of mine is.)...

But do you guys think the bluegill/pumpkinseed would bring disease or parasites into my tank? I would try to catch a small one, maybe like 4" and let it grow out.
My tank is 38gals btw.
the other fish that wouldnt become feeders for the BG/PS are a blue acara, BN pleco, and aluminum cat.

PLEASE, I need opinions!

other then the legalities, not sure with your state. If you'de want to do this I'de suggest looking up your local fish hatcheries and getting one threw them. though BG/PS are schooling fish and should ideally be kept in groups of 5 or more. there are also some dwarf species available w/ abit of online research. BG/PS can get 8-12" specially if well fed and cared for. their water needs are also different then tropicals and though these species do better then most. An unheated tank is ideal.

short answer is it may work.

But no matter what you'll wanna QT the fish for said parasite/bacterial/ect.. particularly due to most tropicals aren't exposes to the same parasite/bacteria strains these fish could carry. Natives can make beautiful wet pets. But It's a pretty big no-no to start mixing them with tropicals as a general rule.

Bg/PS's can also be brutes. ime they are as territorial as cichlids, and can be big bullies. particularly if a single specimine is kept. their heirarchy is similar to discus in the wild. spreading out aggression of the dominante fish among others keeps any single fish from getting picked on to much.

though BG/PS are schooling fish and should ideally be kept in groups of 5 or more. ive seen many single specimens in the wild... seems like they either hang out alone or in huge groups. will look into it.

i am somewhat familiar with cichlids, and have a blue acara at the moment. hes more peaceful than most cichlids and i will keep his safety in mind, as well as that of all my other fish.
This.^^ my answers/opinions are in bold.

any other help would really be appreciated, I want to make this work!

They are panfish so legally you should be OK but definitely check. Otherwise, as said, quarantine. And most sunfish species are pretty aggressive so that could be an issue eventually.

Ive done it alot nothing bad has ever happened

and the fish i usually keep are blugill sunfish and punpkin seeds haha
