i was planning on getting 2 chinese algae eaters for my 55 gallon because it has some algae on the sides (came with it on there) but in about a month i want to get 2-3 rubber lip plecos. i would feed them cucumber pieces and bottom feeder tablets. but would they be ok together. im also keeping firemouths, cons, severums, festivums in it. (just one of each)

duno about those cichlids but algae eaters and plecos have and will continued to be mixed for sure.there are a few good looking rubberlips, choose some good-uns!

chinese algea eaters suck at algea eating... get siamese way better.

are the siamese common? are they expensive? the chinese algae eaters are cheap like 1.99 a piece or cheaper. thats why i wanted them because i just need something to clean the algae right now.

dude, just go with bristlenose plecs, they are hardy and a lot of the ancistrus sp are good at removing even hard algae like the brown algae. they are by far best bet! or panaques if you want to go a slightly more expensive option, royals are supposedly nearly as good

those are the ones i originally wanted, i went to four different petstores but i never see them anywhere. there is an all aquarium fish store that im gonna go to to get my cichlids so if they dont have them there ill just get rubber lips.

Otocinclus

much better than chinese algae eaters because they arent actually chinese or algae eaters

Your small algae eaters whatever they may be, otocinclus, siamese algae, chinese algae, flying foxes and what have you will get eaten by your aggressive south american cichlids like the firemouths and convicts when they are big enough. I would suggest the pleco route with the rubber lips or royals or other panaques because they won't be an easy meal like the smaller variety of algae eaters ~Trent
