It says it's hardwood so at least it's not compressed, but it's impossible to say for sure. Keep in mind that a 40g full of just water is ~400 lbs.

Why not just get an aquarium stand that's designed for the aquarium? You know it will definitely hold its weight, and it should be much much much cheaper than this!

You can get them in a few different types of wood or metal.

Petsmart. Less than a hundred for forty gallon and you know it will hold and most of them look very nice

The water splashing from your tank will ruin the dresser and you will be throwing your money away.

Get an aquarium stand like everyone else says.

If you're primarily concerned with aesthetics, have a stand custom made by a good quality high end cabinet manufacturer like Scavolini or PoggenPohl...that's way better than any of the junk that Pottery barn sells.

If you cant access petsmart, the 2x4 design is your best bet, I had a tank that size on a dresser once, and it was in my room, I learned too things, very high foot traffic, and getting stuff out of dresser drawers can make the whole thing rock back and forth and shake, plus your only going to have around 1.5" on each side of clearance, you want a more open area, and yes believe it or not, if you keep your clothes in there somehow fish food is going to wind up in your drawers, although the legs do look thick on that dresser, commercial store furniture nowadays is made with mdf and other composites that arent meant for such tensile force on them. The only reason my dresser held my aquarium is because the dresser was solid oak, hand made in the 1950's, not sawdust, stands are cheap, and they are SOLID, just my 2 cents. Cheers!

We're looking for a new stand for our aquarium. Do you think this would hold it:

It's pretty expensive, but I'm not sure what else to use. I think this is the aquarium we have:

If anyone has suggestions for more reasonable items that would work, it would be appreciated.

I wouldn't put a tank on something like that, it's going to get wet and get ruined.

*Buy an old dresser or desk from goodwill. (solid wood only)

*Buy a tank stand.

*Build one out of plywood and 2x4s.
