I am at the beginning of redoing my tanks exactly the way I want them and getting rid of some fish given to me, bought a long time ago and so on and so forth.

One tank I have is L72" (180cm) x W18" (45cm) x H22" (55cm)

I wanted to put in:
6-8 silver angels
4 red shouldered severums
2-4 geos
1 BGK (which I already have and it's 12")

Would this work and what would be the best geos to put in this tank?

The filtration is excellent and and my WC schedule is great and consistant.

Comments welcome and suggestions too.

so the tanks a 125g, id go with 5 red head geos. i would also consider no angels with the severums or just 2 severums with the angels. you dont want alot of breeding pairs in the tank so consider that when picking your fish

I really want to keep the angels as I ave had them for over a year already and they are one of my favourites.

The 2 severums sound good.

Any suggestions for swapping for other SA cichlids? Maybe something I didn't think of.

Hi.. I had a similar idea for my 120.. geos, angel, sev and some dithers..
Well I discovered, in my case, my juvie sev rotk RAMBO decided one day that he loved chasing the adult koi angels long fins.. he was driving me and the angel crazy.. I feared he would do the same with the geos I am getting.. so, even tho he was beautiful, Rambo had to be rehomed.. So I would pick either the angels or the sevs.. if you try both then have a backup plan..
All cichlids are individuals and their temperments really do vary.. You may be able to do it with no issues. Since you've had your angels for awhile just be aware that if/when they pair up, they could get nasty.. you never know.. That's why I went for just keeping the single adult koi in my tank.. Again just be aware and have a plan B.. I love the idea of a group of angels and geos.. or else sevs and geos.. Alot of geos also like to be in groups if you have the room for at least 4 or 5.. Don't know how the bkg will do with all the other aggressive eaters in there and you are probably gonna be maxing out with the adult fish you can keep in the tank with just the 6-8 adult angels, and either geos or sevs. I think you are gonna have to decide which are the gotta haves and go from there.
As far as other thoughts as to fish...You might also take a look at keyholes.. They are very mellow and might be a good substitute for the sevs as they are smaller and won't bother anyone.. Those you could probably have with the angels with no problem.. You also might want to consider Bolivian rams instead of geos.. They stay smaller and would be fine with the angels and probably just fine with the sevs as well.. HTH Sue:D
Good luck with whatever you decide to do. HTH Sue

I would love keyholes but unfortunately they are never seen here.
I have rams already with my 5 angels in a 55gal.

I want bigger "peaceful" cichlids. I might see if I can get my hands on some festivum ( either mesonauta festivus or mesonauta insignis ) to go with the angels and geos.

Would 2 severums be ok in a 55gal?

It might work. you'd be suprised what works. I have rotkiels with a texas and a festae. I think angels and severum have very similar personalities

I would think geos would be a better bet. I've seen them be nothing but pussy cats as far as aggression goes. I agree with Sue though that you could try it as long as you have a backup if the sevs don't work out.

festivum would work good. they only get about 6" but look pretty nice. i think rapps has some right now.

if the severums in a 55g are a pair, you'll be good. i have a breeding pair in my 55g. i grew them since they were 2" in the 55g and are doing great in the tank. i may eventually move them if they get too large. after a year my male is 7-8" and my female is about 6"

55 gallon tanks here have a different footprint. My tank's footprint is 90cm (36") by 45cm (18"). It is 55cm ( 22") tall.

I have no experience with severums but the lfs's around here have had a boom in some stunning rotkiels that I am eyeing out.

They are going for US$16 for a 1.5"-2" specimen.
