Hi,

For a few years now I’ve wanted an electric blue Jack Dempsey and a convict cichlid. While before it wasn’t possible or wise to house them with my discus, i’m Now in a position to get a new 300g tank.

I’d like to have the following stock list but would like some opinions on if this would work... I appreciate if I may have to remove some fish from my list such as the puffer.... I’m kind of just hoping with that one :)

Stock list
Electric blue Jack Dempsey x1
Green terror cichlid x1
Convict cichlid x1
Electric blue acara x1
Jewel cichlid x1
Ellioti cichlid x1
Red tail black shark x1
Pictus catfish x2
Synodontis catfish x1
Green spotted puffer x1
Torpedo barb x3
Tiger barbs/Columbian tetras x7

Also to add the green terror isn’t a must have, it’s the Jack Dempsey that I really want so happy to forfit if need be. But out of curiosity would a silver or Asian arowana work at all in this? And is an electric blue Jack Dempsey a plant digger/uprooter or would all plants have to be attached to wood and decor?

In a 300 you may have luck with that mix, though some of the fish you want to keep prefer different water types, SA cichlids like it soft and low pH, while the CA cichlids like the opposite. What is your source water like? If it's neutralish this may not be a big issue, but if it's very soft for example, I would skip the CA's like the thoricthys, ebjd, convict, and opt for more SA species. And vice versa.

The puffer is a wild card, don't think i'd recommend it but some people seem to have some luck

Thanks for the replies. Yes I have a water ph that is close to neutral. I’ll drop the puffer and the green terror from the list and go ahead with the rest and pick either the barbs or the tetras.
