i have a 150 non drilled glass tank. I'm currently using 2 fx5 filters but lately I've been been looking at those diy 4 plastic drawer wet/dry filters. i have a spare 75 gallon so this is my plan, tell me this would or would not work.

1) have one intake hose from1 fx5 in the main tank
2) attach the output hose from that same fx5 connected securely to the top of the wet/dry filter (75 gallon)
3) have the intake of the 2nd fx5 pulling water out of the wet/dry
4) finally have the output of the 2nd fx5 go back into the main tank

In my head this seems doable, more media options less clutter and hoses in the tank and the flow to and from the fx5s are adjustable. not in a position to buy a submersible pump at the moment and the tank isn't drilled.

what do you guys/gals think?

If the filter with the intake in the main tank and the output in the smaller tank were to break your main tank would overflow because you would be left with and intake in the 75 and an output in the main tank. If you raise the intake high enough in the 75 then only a small amount of water would overflow assuming the other filter breaks. It's just something to keep in mind.

I'm no expert, but I wouldn't do it personally. I would stick with either the Fx5s or the sump, but not all of them jerryrigged together.

I would just wait until you can buy a submersible pump, Rios are decent and under $100.

This could get tricky trying to get 2 water pumps to operate in sync

I've never owned an FX, but couldn't you just remove the water pump and then just use it without the canister housing?

Don't think it would work, the fx pumping in to the sump would have a higher turn over than the fx pumping from the sump to the main tank, it will lose some turn over rate due to head hight
Two fx5 on a 150 gal is more than enough filtration

A water bridge will eliminate that issue.

Agree.

Just keep it simple, and not make things more complicated than it needs to be.
.........but, if this something you want to do, just for kicks, have fun and let us know how it goes
