I don't get it...

It's a plastic box with many many holes in it and suction cups on the back...

How would it be used as an "overflow box"...

It's a neat looking box that I'm sure I could find a few uses for... isolating a small fish or a few fry in a tank... a trap to place a floating thermometer in so large fish do not break it...

You could stick your filters intake in the box and use it as a prefilter of sorts, although I think a typical sponge prefilter would be much more practical...

Maybe I'm just missing what you are suggesting... if so please explain...

I also don't see how it would work. Most of the hang-on-back overflows have two boxes to maintain the siphon in the U-tube. That shower holder obviously can't be used as the outside box and as the inside box, it would drain when the tank's water level drops and you would lose the siphon.

Avoid the CPR overflows. They need a powerhead or other pump to restart the siphon, something only necessary by their poor U-tube design.

Two of those boxes at $4 each, siphon tube $5, bulkhead $6 and you still need to figure out a way to mount the boxes and adjust their height.

Look for a used overflow for like $30. The hang-on-back overflows aren't the easiest things to make. Some of the commercial ones don't even work that well.

I was just about to say that the sticker looked like it was from Big Lots and ask where you got it. What part of Florida are you from?
