i have an oscar on a 55 gallon only about 6 inches big with tail.It has killed a convict which is about 2 inches when it was 4 inches a dempsey that was 2.5 inches when it was 5 inches big. now i want to add a red devil because im getting a tank in the summer early june. the red devils at petsmart are what im looking for because (correct me if im wrong) about 7-8 dollars only (canadian) the midas/red devil. but i heard bad stories about red devils but im still worried that my oscar will kill it. is it recommended that i try it or not. because i cant wait to have a red devil

well you could make a divider out of egg crate(can be found at local hardware store). buy the RD if it and the O dont get along install the divider. What kinda tank are you getting? Once your oscar is full grown the 55 will be to small, the same goes for that red devil.

Hold off until you get another tank. Even though the Oscar is bigger, the RD is going to grow and they can get pretty mean, I mean meaner than the Oscar. How big of a tank are you going to get?
okay since my friend would want a red devil (spare 55) i would just give it to him when it doesnt work out with my oscar. Its of to petsmart tomorrow and i want to get a male one.
can anyone post a pic of a male red devil and a female because i want a male one. also if it is a midas/red devil will it still be a devil? and how do you make the males grow the nuchal hump on the forehead?

be prepared for a loss. since as stated there seems to be a pattern. you won't really be able to tell m/f a the young age that petsmart sells them at. also their midas are most likely a midas/RD cross as well as their reg RD's. the nuch hump will develope with age. and if breeding occurs. however some will loose the hump as fast as it formed.
some else might know of another way for humps to be sparked. i've heard of mirrors working.
