I have 4 20 gallon tanks i need to filter. Since 2 tanks sit on shelves one above the other and the other 2 tanks on a shelf next to that. Could i have one tank over flow into the one under it and then have that tank overflow in a sump or wd?

If you have 4 tanks setup like in this picture, how would you filter them?

I personally would buy a quad of aqua clear 50's and call it a day. Is the sump already built ?

It probably will work but might end up being more work then it has to be. I would just throw in the largest AC's you can afford.

Bottom one never gets filtered properly and you have to deal with the spread of disease. Better to run two into one sump with separate overflows.

Best would be individual filters, like tcarswell said, or atleast separate sponge filters.

Is this for breeding?

Depending on your load you can just buy a decent air pump, a gang valve and sponge filters, would be the cheapest and easiest.

I thought about sponge filters. But how well do they really work? I currently do not have the sumps built. I was kicking the idea around about what to do about these. I currently have a penguin 200 still in a box I could use on one of the tanks. I could just go pickup a few more I suppose. 2 of these tanks will be for convicts. I have 3 breeding pairs right now and a ton of babies that I want to seperate. My plan is to raise convicts as feeders for some of my other tanks. Just trying to get a good population started.

Right on. Stick with the individual filters and seed them as best as possible. Stability one tank at a time! No cross contamination. Use the sump on one of the tanks these feeders are going to maybe :)

Thats a good possibility. Within the next few weeks I am going to be setting up a 150, 125, 2x 100, and 2x 75 gallon tanks all in the same fish room. Going to be a busy month for me with fish lol

I can relate I just established the fourth tank in my living room alone :) Best of luck to you in your setups :headbang2
