In the next couple of weeks I hopefully will finally be getting either my true tex or the green tex.

As I want to make sure to give them a good grow out before they join my 120g.

Currently I have a sparsly decorated 14g which is being run by a tetratex ex600 which I have taken from an older tank I have just sitting around.

Not sure the exact size but I'd estimate between 40-55g. I want to set this back up under my main tank.

I was wondering, if I place the external filter back over there, change over all the water and the decorations + sand would I still need to go through the cycle? (currently I have 2 cons living in the 14g)

no, it should be fully cycled by now, its been running for the last two months or something.

so hooking that up to my new tank should just work then?

It sounds like it should work..i would give the filter a few days to filter thru all the water to be sure all the parameters settle out.

With no other changes, other than the addition of more water, you should be "good to go".

Between the bacteria on the decor/gravel and the canisters media, doing a swap should be fine.

I would do the change, let the convicts adjust to the new "finbow" room, while checking the water parameters before adding the new fish.

Just because we do everything right, does not mean it will come out right..it just increases the probabilities.

We all know..."*&%# happens"

^^ Very true!

Really hope it all just works out. Still waiting on news when the new fish will arrive - then I'll start getting things prepared to set up the new tank.
