Just a thought!

I saw a very promising ad in the Tonga region that a big private island is for sale. It is surrounded by reefs, lagoons and the island faces toward open ocean.

If I purchase it and dig out all of the rocks, harvest the fish, corals and export to North America. Would it be possible? Or will it just be a farfetch dream?

Any comments are welcome! :)

Why would you be so short sighted? If you can afford it buy it, set up a sustainable fish and coral exporting business. Build a small resort and hire a professional diver and offer scuba courses and tours. Set up a private airport and helipad for customers to arrive and do sightseeing tours from. Maybe some kind of wellness centre/meditation/massage/fitness retreat too. If it's your island set up a cannabis growl centre, export that for medicinal use and sell it to the tourists for recreation use. Build your dream house and hire 2 sexy young "personal assistants" of whatever your preference is and a personal chef.
You will have a nice business and multiple income streams and live the life of a decadent king.
Since I came up with the idea I demand to stay there for free whenever I choose, flights ,food , cannabis and massage extras included.
Or you could just stop talking nonsense.

I am copy pasting this in to my future plans and if it works out I agree to your deal.

Canadian; it figures. They're all nuts.

I sense a troll. No way somebody could pitch an asinine idea like stripmining a coral reef on a forum full of fish lovers, finish it with "any comments are welcome", and not expect to start a firefight.

Not trolling at all. Just an idea, because Tonga "things" are really sought after in the trade.

Tourism is dead at the moment.

Building a resort will cost a lot more & it's hard to attract investors in the middle of nowhere.

In a sense it's like strip mining, I understand it hurts the environment but with the rising sea level and ocean acidification. They are still getting hurt by the everchanging environment and they could disappear too.

Furthermore, it still cost around $8 million dollars, it's a lot, but with the sought after demand in the aquarium trade. I believe it's possible to make even or.. a profit?

It's just an idea in a business point of view and it caught my eyes, because of the low asking price.

Well tourism is dead now but won't be forever, maybe in the future people would be more inclined to go to an out of the way spot than a crowded city or tourist hotspot too.
The logistics of stripping everything out and getting it back to the U.S alive, storing all the livestock, coral and the rocks then finding someone to buy it and keeping it healthy during the whole process would be very hard to arrange and ridiculously expensive. How much would a facility to hold it all cost to hire and buy and run? That's without arranging flights , shipping and import/export permits and labour.
Probably just buying an island doesn't give you the rights to rip everything out of the sea around it as well, probably something to check before you lay down $8000000.
You say it might be possible to break even or make a profit , what's the point of going through it all to break even and ending up with an island with a destroyed ecosystem at the end of it all?
Not being mean but it seems like a dopey plan. If you have $8000000 laying around that you want to invest seek some financial advice and do something more profitable than wrecking and island and returning home with containers full of dead fish and coral.
