I and a buddy of mine are both senior developers and computer enthusiasts. We have come up with a system that we are planning on developing two prototypes and I was wondering if there would ever be a market for. What it would encompass would be a PH, Ammonia, Power loss, and water level monitoring system that would email you if any of these were to fall out of preset parameters. We are also looking a self-repairing system that would inject a PH balancing chemical to control the levels if needed. It would also divert water from the outlet hose to a drain and replenish with new clean water in the case of an ammonia spike or a nitrate/nitrite. My question is how many of you would be interested in a system of this caliber? We are putting everything together to build the first prototype now and see how it would work. Oh it would require a WIFI connection to send a notification to your phone/email.

I have been intensely looking for a aquarium monitor for freshwater. None exist!! IMO, and basically what I am looking for is a controller that controls (dims and ramps) led lights (sunrise, sunset and lunar), and monitors and controls temp of at least two heaters. Also a one touch configurable switch to shut down all filtration for maintenance and a soft start feature for your pumps. Most controllers I've seen do that and the a whole S load of other things I don't need to monitor and could care less about. IMO PH, Ammonia, useless features. I test for them regularly and continuous testing in freshwater is futile. They could be add-ons if people wish. Water level sensor would be another decent add on. Freshwater parameters usually don't have quick drastic catastrophic swings so any "self repair" would be very cost prohibitive. You can get and apex jr for $250 or less and keep track of just about anything you want to. So a freshwater monitor would obviously have to come in under that to be cost effective. All this is just my 2 cents as I have spent hours lately looking for a monitor that suits my needs. I haven't ordered one yet.

What? end all slavery, panic, horror stories and mayhem?

Actually a good idea, when I did reef!

A nanny system would of been great, I couldn't leave for more than 2-3 days tops before evaporation destroys salinity.

In a nutshell, No. but i would buy an auto water change system i could program. when im away my biggest worry is water changes not getting done.

Key is can you make the setup cheaper than the controllers already on the market?

I would buy it, but it would have to be worth it financially. And how effective would the system be in a large tank? Like a 400 gal+? I think ammonia ph etc controlling would be an awesome feature to have for any tank. But yeah biggest worry is the money.

They allready have controlers that link to your phone and you can monitor and change levels and stuff... They are all usually for salt water... Maybe a fresh water one could hit the market ? Dont know how well it would do tho..

I dont have one on my salt tank because they are crazy expensive.

I wouldn't man on buying it, but if I was on amazon after a few cold ones itching to buy a new gadget all bets are off. My experience is that once the tank is cycled and you know what is needed from the maintenance side there is no need to test the water.

Yeah...no I would'nt buy it. A cheap service to come in and maintain your tank. Like a kid or wife now that would be ideal.
