I am a chemical engineer first of all. I thought I would let you all know that because I am relatively new to this forum.

I have been thinking about doing some freelance research into if there are any chemicals that could actually preserve bio media that is already cycled and has a good bacteria colony in it.

The only thing is with what I am thinking right now is that I would have to work on trying things that have preservative capabilities, but would also allow the bacteria to be almost in a sense reactivated either by warming it up or adding another chemical agent included with the filter.

The other thing is that it would have to be something that is non-lethal or even harmful to fish.

The other thing that I'm concerned about is say a startup filter like this cost an extra 15-20$ like I'm guessing it will if I can figure it out. How many of you would be willing to fork out the extra cash to avoid the 6 week waiting period to cycle the tank?

The reason I am just now bringing this up is because in my other forum http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=407319 the filter I used to cycle the tank in 24 - hours has been in the fridge since last fall when I turned off my pond filter for the winter. I useed something that I thought would work and voila it did. I'm just trying to decide if this is something I could make money off of or would it be a dead product. After the first day I had already cycled the tank and went from 6 ppm ammonia to 6 hours later 0 ammoni 0.25 nitrite and 20 ppm nitrate.
