Are you thinking about doing it? I would recomend you set up a website where they could see examples of your work. The Ads not bad but you won't get as many bites as if they can see what you can do.

I'm thinking about it, first I need to set up a couple examples, I did this as a profitable hobby at one time. What do you think of the prices, they are pressure treated 2x12 constrution and 4x4 posts mainly, and solid as a rock. They are 30" deep and my favorite that I have ever built is (2) 8'x12' sections connected by a 8'x8' section that also has (3) 6'x2.5'x2.5'gravel bed and plant filters plus (6) in pond 44g box filters, (3) 4250gph pumps, an 8'x14" bench and (2) 2'x3' storage boxes. 6000g@$5000.

Hi angie, I think I am offering a good deal but it is scary to go into business for myself. I offer a damn good product but still it is risky to do this.

Try starting part time...... do it on weekends.... take vacation... call in sick.... worst you can do is fail. Can't get well off without some risk but don't hang it out so far that you loose the ol homestead...... been there doing it.

Ads usually wont work nearly as well as word of mouth, or a good portfolio, or a good relationship with area landscapers, unless you are willing to lay out the money for strategic marketing to those with the highest disposable income. (Cost us about $15,000 last year)

The majority of our business comes from people seeing our work in person, we have one neighboorhood that has 15 of our projects, and four estimates pending. The neighboorhood got started with one large waterfeature at a residence, and the rest all hired us after seeing the first one. Lovely snowball effect. :)

The biggest thing is to CYA, Libility insurance is cheap. Also make sure you have a good feel for you local electrical, plumbing, excavation, and building codes, as you will be tested. :)

Jonathan...

Did not even think about local elecrical codes, thanks.
