would you mix this lap with this ornate? i thought i was ready to graduate the lap to my main tank but now i am not so sure. lap is about 7 inches. ornate is about 14. ornate is about twice as thick as the lap.
well, i put her back in the grow-out tank. i would still like opinions. but i have seen that ornate and one of the endlies take chunks of shrimp of similar size to the lap. once i saw them next to each other it seemed like a really bad idea.
If you want to grow him out a little more I don't see a problem with that, but with UJ not being as predatory to little fish as LJ I think you should be fine. The only thing I would worry about it him getting enough food with those big guys in there.
yeah. i have seen her do that with the last two additions to the tank. but i still think i will sleep better at night if i let the lap grow out a little more.

it hasn't happened to me yet. but i tend to error on the side of caution.
the lap has been growing pretty good. probably 3 - 4 inches in 3 months. the grow out also has two weeksii that i have had since june or so and have probably only grown an inch or 2. the lap eats most of the food that goes in that tank and even though she started at half the size she has now surpassed them in length and girth. i really want to move the lap out to make sure the weeksii can can get more food and to lessen the bioload in the growout tank. but i am sure i can wait another month or 2.
Nice growth rate , could grow them out more but I think they will be fine,
I have introduced a 8" ornate to my tank with couple 20" endlies and a 16-18" ornate had no issues, I've also added a couple lap's not to long ago, they were about 8-10" on arrival, I have had no issue at all. My endlies and ornate have both eaten prey bigger then these lap's but I've yet to see any of my bicirs act predatory toward each other (knock on wood), in fact the small ones seem more comfortable with the larger ones present, they stay close to the larger ones most of the time.
I also agree nipping is typical display of dominance/ territorial behaviors. My ornates (especially older males) always were worst for nipping at the fins of others, while i find the endlies tend to snap at the side, almost more of a head bunt mouth open then a bite, but it comes with ALOT more power lol most fish learn quick that the endlies are boss.
