Would you trade a brand new 2217, never used, plus a little cash for an FX5 that's a month old and comes with most of its media (I'd want to switch some of it out for other media which I will already have).

I was planning on using the 2217 on a 100g 4x2x21 geophagus tank, but if I can upgrade to an FX5, should I?

yeah how much cash? i would if it was like 50 bucks. yeah the 2217 would be a good second filter in my opinion on that size tank. i run an fx5 and 2217 on a 100 gal. but the fish are pretty messy too, not like geos

Well, I'm trading the 2217 for the FX5, possibly. I'm thinking +$35 or less although, I might willing to do more. I just bought the 2217 for $140 with everything included. I figure that trade would equal about $175, which is a good price for an FX5 that's a month old, filled with media.

Well, he wanted the 2217 plus $50, so I declined. That would bring the price up to about $200, which isn't bad, but I don't have that to spare right now. And the 2217 should do just fine on my Geo tank.

Hmmm if the trade still stands later and if I was you I might still be tempted depending on what media is in the fx5. After shipping on ebay you can't find a fx5 cheaper then that and that's without media depending on what brand media youy get if you get the fluval brand it not cheap at all. Maybe in a week or two you can't talk him down.

I already ordered 8L of Matrix to put in my other FX5 and other filters, so I'd be putting that in the new one if I got it.

The FX5 was going to come with the bio sponge in the bottom tray, bio balls in the middle tray, and the pre-filter and charcoal in the top tray. Also had a box of polishing pads with it.

He was unhappy with it because he was having to clean it about every 6 days, which required turning it on its side to get it out of the stand, and dumping water everywhere. He was using the polishing pads in it.

When I first got mine I used the polishing pads to and was also having to clean them about every six days. Needless to say I don't use the pads anymore.
