Hey guys many of you will remember my post last week about the female green terror I rescued from serious ammonia burn. Well glad to say she is on her way to a full recovery now and her tail fin is growing back rapidly and I expect it to be full healed in the next few weeks.

HOWEVER......
Due to my inattention viewing phone photos of her and also not getting a proper look at her in the previous owners tank when I picked her up, I have since notice that she has some white colour thru her dorsal fin rays. It only continues for the first half of the dorsal blaze where they are white at the bottom and have orange tips. The rest of the fin continues thru solid orange as well as her thick tail band being completely bright orange. As I intended in putting her with my awesome gold male I was just wondering a couple of things

Will this be a bad idea with the white in her fins?

Do you reckon this trait will appear in her fry?

Will the white possibly turn back to orange?

I'm guessing this will not be recomended and not worth the risk as I do not want fry with multi coloured fins. I'm a bit shattered about this and think the best option would be to move her on even though the rest of her looks pretty awesome. Anyways just looking for a few more opinions from present and past gt breeders to see if they've seen this before, I have enclosed pictures hopefully they are clear enough. Thanks guys sorry for the long post.

And a pic of her from the previous owner from a few months back when she was completely healthy. Wish I zoomed in on the pic as you can see the white there too.

Note she is no way related to the white saum next to her according to the previous owner and was 'apparently' sourced fom interstate and not the lfs where he got the female. image.jpg

Since both male and female are aquarium strain fish, I don't see a problem.
If you end up with fry, just be sure to let them get old enough to spot any deformities, and/or traits you feel are undesirable, and cull those individuals.
These usually are apparent at @ 2".
At least for me, once you get past F1, its simply about our own personal likes or dislikes as far as aesthetics go, value is in the eyes of the beholder.

If you're looking to distribute it might be a bad idea but if you're just looking for the experience of breeding cichlids and the fun that that entails, I'd say still go for it.

Well spoken

Thanks heaps for the reply mate, I'm a bit late I know lol haven't been able to get online in over a week. I'll try getting them to spawn in another couple of months will grow them out and monitor for multi coloured dorsals. Any hint of white and shel be getting moved on unfortunately. Thanks again
