Wound or something else ?

He is settling down had himnfor about 3 weeks but would periodically beat the crap out of himself and usually heal up in a few days this hasn't gone away been there for about a week. Any ideas of what it is?

I don't think fungus, but keep an eye out and if it gets worse in that spot or appears raised and fuzzy it could be. I have a large acei and he liked to chase the loaches and has a few of these type looking spots. They don't go away and also don't get any worse. I suppose I could try melafix, but if it's not harming them why bother.

water changes ... pristine water will fix any small fungal infections ... if it gets worse think about meds

I have pimafix and melafix but wanted to avoid using them ....will up the thw wc's though.


Would feeding fish about an hour before testing alter water tests? I just tested and have small amount of ammonia and 0 nitrite 5 ppm of nitrate. Also tested the tap and it came up with 0 ammonia k

I wouldn't worry about it, small problems tend to work themselves out. I would def up the water changes though, even small amounts of ammonia can cause problems.

What would cause the ammonia to jump like that ? Could it have been feed in them around an hour before testing

Yes the ammonia can be slightly elevated after feeding. Like others have said keep water parameters good and everything should be fine.
