The way I had my Filstar setup before was 3 trays of mechanical sponges and 1 tray of Bio Stars. When it was clean I was getting a 190gph thru a Tom flow meter, then when it would drop I would clean it out.
Now that I switched it to one tray of mechanical sponges, and three trays of bio media, Seachem, Eheim, and Biomax, the clean flow rate is 150gph. So yes, the ratings on canister filters do crack me up!
