This is what I came home to see today... my female proteus spawning or ...at least laying eggs. I am happy but at the same time sad, she has no mate (to rallysman's relief). I can't help but think she is telling me her clock is ticking and it is time to reproduce. And there are no males in sight... :( It was a beautiful sight to see though. First time I ever seen my proteus swimming upside down for any length of time. Anybody have a male C. proteus for me?

Keep them in bears country... hahaha. If I could find a mate, I'd drop like 30 of them of at your door step in a little basket. Can't turn down an orphan. Right? haha

Last night I watched as she ate all the eggs. Atleast she cleaned up after herself. hahaha

Someone here step up and get this girl a mate.

You know someone is reading this saying, "I bet he would want my male... oh well." Hahaha

I do have a male at a freinds house, but he is only anout 5-6" (still looks like food to her). One of these days (my famous last words).

Any body else ever had a Crenicichla lay eggs without a mate? This is the first time she has done it. Funny thing is the same day, two of my C. regani paired up. I found eggs in that tank before but they vanished by morning. So atleast I should have some success with spawning Crenicichla in the near future.

A lot of cichlids will spawn by themselves if they are ready and no male present. Kinda sucks, but it happens.

I know of someone who has proteus...or at least had them, and was gettin them to breed for him. Great fish!! Best of luck to you man!! Put a divider in there and add the male, see what happens. Even if he is a little smaller, they might breed...;)

I'm still iffy about adding the new guy, he is about 5-6" which is about 3-4" smaller than my female. She is a good 9" and could eat him in a second (or at least fit him inside her mouth). Soon enough I'll try it though.
