I just put in my new black sand in without rinsing it and now the water is cloudy and some of the black smaller particles are floating at the top... what should i do, any recommendations or will it all eventually settle?

do you have fish in there? if no, do a complete water change. if you do have fish in there. just do partial w/c everyday. you def shouldve rinsed that sand! it took forever for me to rinse my black sand clean, but it was soo much easier. also, for future reference, if your tank is empty and you put sand down, put a plate on the bottom and lay your hose on that, it wont stir up the sand. good luck!

well i did a water change then put the sand in there, so u recommend doing a 25% water change untill it clears up or for a week... or what u think, is it safe to start one tomorrow and not tonight i just did a wc today

it'll take some time (hours/days) to settle if then theres still floating particles use a fish net and take it out..next time dont get too excited and rinse before you put it in your tank..lol

only been about a hr, already less cloudy its getting there we will c tomorrow, less chunks up top to i think it will take care of its self... thanks for info guys

I am not sure I would be doing water changes every day. I would skim out what you can with a net and let the rest settle. Maybe a water change every 3 days.

Wrap your filter intakes with some really fine filter mesh. Those larger sand particles will eat up a filter quick.
