I want to add some pond matrix to my sump. 8L of it. Online, you can get a 4L bottle for $25. For kicks, I called a local (well, 60 miles away is local if you live in kansas) pet store, and asked for prices. they said they would call me back. They call me back, and its $150 for 4L of pond matrix through them! they even gave me the $75 price on 2L of it.

Lol wow I guess you'll be ordering it online. I wonder how many suckers they get to buy it from them lol.

amazon.com ?
pretty sure i got 4l bucket for 25 bucks from them.
and i will agree with the mark ups. everything but prime it seems is pretty marked up, i was quoted around 60 for the 2L (matrix) and then they couldnt even get it in. they got carbon matrix instead :screwy:

Wow, I would not be putting a LFS down because of their mark ups. Internet places do not have that much overhead. In short, I kind of feel sorry for LFS now since they have to deal with competition from the internet and the big box stores which sale stuff for a cheaper price.

3 LFS in my area, within a 25 mile radius from where I live is having an out of business sale right now. 7 to 8 LFS in my area within a 50 mile radius from where I live has closed down within the past 3-4 years. I always like to see small local businesses survive.

overhead is definitely a key factor but that is a very large difference. I tend to buy locally to a) support local business b) build relationship with lfs c) because I can get it right then and now.

However if the difference is significant i'll buy online. However 25 vs 150... something seems weird. I wonder if he/she quoted the wrong thing???

No, that is not my point. The point is that everyone knows that LFS sell stuff for more than the internet does. So what is the big deal. You want to tell everyone that? Go right ahead like the OP is doing.

Like I said, I like to see small businesses survive and I know they have a lot of competition.

What LFS? I live in KC MO and I can't find any LFS or Bigbox that sell any seachem matrix.

Also I understand about LFS and its clear they are suffering I have lost 3 around me that I know of.
