So since yesterday some inhabitant has totally eaten one eye and almost the other of a 5.5" pangasius.

Hes swimming blindly and no ones bothering him. I just dont get who it might have been that attacked him.

There are 3 new resident fish, but they've been here 3 weeks. One 6.5" jack Dempsey. one 9" pleco and a 5 " silver dollar. The other fish have been with him from day one. Except 3 tinfoil barbs that are now closing in on 5 or 6"

I had the small thing happen to a pangasius. Never really affected him, I did move him to another outside pond tho. Main thing if he/she is able to feed with the other tanks occupants or not . Try to keep your water extra clean for a few weeks. What other fish are in there?

In nature, catfish very similar in appearance to your pangasius hover around jack dempsey nests to eat the JD fry. I would think that would be a natural reaction from a JD to attack a perceived natural enemy.

Hes swimming bumping into other fish, the other eye isnt an empty socket, but its certainly not going to heal up.

I added some melafix and ill do a decent water change tomorrow.

So. Ill see how he does. But if the jd eats any more eyes, he will be living solo.

I've seen fish lose both eyes without any issues, especially catfish. He should stop bumping into things over a couple days. Sometimes these fish injure themselves running into ornaments etc. and creates small tears on the eye that get infected and the eye seems to peal away over a period of time. Just another possibility if its not aggression.

That may kill the lesser fish, but I've seen catfish survive worse.

Keep the water as clean as possible to fend off opportunistic infections. Keep up with the melafix and such. Keep in mind that catfish are sensitive to medication that contains copper compounds.

If the wound heals and doesnt get infected, and he doesnt get attacked again, he may survive. And then he'll have a heck of a story.
