Well i had no good catches with my trap...only 1 minnow before....but today! OMFG, first i went and the water was frozen, so i went to get my other trap out and nothing was in it :irked: . So i went back to the frozen one and broke the ice and pulled it out! IT WAS FULL WITH FISH 4-6 inches! And not only that THE HOLE LAKE WAS STACKED WITH THEM! So i put them in my container and i will choose 2 to keep... id please! I would say CREEK CHUB?

ID PLEASE!

At first glance I would also guess creek chub

How should i acclimate them...because i know if i just put them in 75 degree water from 20 degrees they will die... correct?

id say put them on your stove with a pot of warm water and just slowly reach a boil....

 Well i put a bag and poked a hole so it drips into the quartine tank. :naughty:

It's certainly a Luxilus species so it's not a creek chub. Since your in PA it's either a common shiner Luxilus cornutus which lives throughout the state or it's a striped shiner Luxilus chrysocephalus which lives in the western part of your state.

These fish seem to be able to handle temperature acclimation well in the winter but I've found large adults really don't take to tank life well. If you like these fish, get young fish and introduce them. They seem to take well to tank life if captured young.

Edit: I would acclimate them over a period of two days. Put them in the garage for a day then bring them in the basement for a day. Change the water often (every day or better).

I would also agree that it's a striped or common shiner, personally I am leaning towards striped. Nice catch, I'v never seen one alive but I think a large community tank with a shoal of them would look nice, good looking fish IMO.

ive tried a few time to keep shinners i caught from my local creek here in PA and never had any luck. all though they do fine in the round minnow bucket they never made it past the first night in the tank.

very cool i would get a cpl more get a little school going
