So my filter, Aquaclear just busted, I got another, should I leave the biomax and replace sponge + carbon or other way around? I've never had a filter just break on me like this one did. I unplugged it for a WC and plugged it back in and nothing. No noise nothing. Didn't even get touched in process, other then unplugging the chord.

go get some eheim...(hey eheim guys it's a free add, give me some products will ya?) pretty much basic and read some of the members here that their canisters (I don't know if you're getting one) to last even up to 20+ years w/o busting up.

take out the motors and reassemble the parts. I once had an eheim that wouldn't start up (no noise at all). I thought my eheim was a goner but once i did it a few times, it miraculously worked.

Thanks for the help guys I took it apart and im going to let it sit for the day to dry. I would love to go eheim EC but I have to order it online nowhere sells them locally, which is why I've been hesitant

There was so much gunk and bacteria in the motor that I think it literally just stopped it

well there you go!! :) Before my incedent one month ago, I didn't know you were supposed to clean off the gunk in the motors too. After the cleaning, my filter not only worked but now I don't hear the sounds of the filter.

I've had to 'encourage' my impellers to restart from time to time.. normally just stick a skewer down in the impeller and kinda jump start it. :D

the quick fix for that is... take out the intake tube and manually spin the impeller (with a pencil ) ,,it'll work 9times outta 10

+ 1 but with a Chop stick. If sand or rocks get in the impeller housing it wont start up after being unplugg, just spin it. Spin Baby Spin!!

Thanks for the helpful tips guys! I'll have to try the skinny tool method before I just give up and buy a replacement motor, I tried running it again, did nothing again after the cleaning, no noise or anything, so I'll try the other method when I'm home from work, if not replacement motor here I come
