My jack dempsey's have spawned. First time I have ever had cichlid's spawn. Now what? The eggs are gone, but I see little wrigglers on the ground. DO i need to feed them yet? :nilly:

Well, first off, this belongs in the breeding section. (sorry to sound rude)

To answer your question: Just leave them be. The parents will defend them and do a great job raising them. If there are other fish in the tank, they must be removed and separated. Cover up your filter intake with fine mesh or even a filter pad to prevent the fry from being sucked up.
You will not have to feed them until they are free swimming. You can feed any micro-food such as newly hatched brine shrimp and infusoria. However, I've had luck with finely crushed flakes and krill powder.

Cool cool. All that is in the tank is just 2 Bristlenosed plecos, and 6 Giant danios....And I already added a sponge filter to the end of my filter.

Take out the giant danios or say by to most of your fry...

Aw man...bye to how many of my fry? The plan is to use my divider once the fry get big enough where they won't fit through the holes...Or am I being unrealistic?

The giant danios are pretty fast,they can probably swoop in and get a few without the JD's killing them.See what happens,I love JD's and have a pair of them but there isnt a huge demand for them,and as soon as the fry are gone theyll spawn again anyway

okies =)

You can use a cheap alternative as well to feed. Just take a chicken egg yolk (cooked) and put it in a pair of panty hoes and just shake a little bit in the water. Don't do it too much though because it goes everywhere. The fine mesh of the panty hoes make the egg small enough for consumption by the fry. I do it all the time for my Managuense fry and they are growing strong. The only time you should use infusoria is when they are first free swimming. Infusoria are very small and only can provide proper nutrition for so long probably 2 weeks max. I feed my Manny fry egg yolk, crushed flakes, Potatoe chunks, Algae scrapping, Fresh hatched brine shrimp but I do feed more mature brine shrimp as well that are frozen. See what happens with the other fish to see if the number of frygoes down and if it does then take the other fish out but if not just leave as be. If you are planning to grow them out remove the fry after maybe 2 weeks of parents taking care of them and take care of them on your own to ensure more survivals.

I use peas in the same way cross uses egg yolk, blend them up in the rummage sale proccesser and pippette them into the school when the fry become free swimming
