Looking for a 5-6" Dorado in SoCal.
Anyone know the exact full name for S. hilarii???
Found a profile here on MFK and don't know what the "S" stands for. Thanks

I think you might be looking for the Dorado Salminus Maxillosus

I don't know ?? Just the smaller one of the bunch that max out around 2ft or a lil less :)

I don't know what scientific name that is buy you might be looking for a fish by the common name/family of brycon? Looks like a dorado.. has teeth.. but doesn't get very big..

Oh man, I thought Brycon was the smallest Dorado???
What do you think would be best with Vittatus?? Brycon or Dorado?

Brycon.. Dorado get huge and have a worse temperment.. I would make a WTB: Brycon if that's what you want.. more people will recognize that name..

BTW, there are many different types of Brycon's as "Brycon" is actually a whole family of fish.. See..

http://www.fishbase.org/NomenClatur...ntains&crit2_value=&group=summary&backstep=-2

But common name Brycon is usually the fish that looks alot like the dorado but smaller/less tempermental.

This is probably the hilari fish you're looking for?? http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/speciesSummary.php?ID=52994&genusname=Brycon&speciesname=hilarii

I believe this is the fish commonly sold as "Brycon" at LFS', etc. The one that most people buy as "brycon"

http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/speciesSummary.php?ID=51838&genusname=Brycon&speciesname=whitei

Double check those scientific names to make sure that's what you want befor doing a "WTB" though.. I don't want to get you confused and have you getting the wrong fish.
