I have 3 and I went to bed and they were all great, they all ate and then this morning one dead on the bottom. I have never had a gar die on me. I guess i'm more than venting than asking for help cause what can I do? All the levels in the tank are perfect and the tank has many other fish and rays who all seem fine.... grrrr. wonder why?

sorry for the loss,......... I love my 2 gars and that would bum me out. I've heard that gars do that though out of the blue for no reason. Not completely an uncommon thing.

RIP for your little monster

Gar do not just up and die for no reason in the span of less than 24 hours.... There is always a reason.

That said though I sorry to hear you lost one of the great fish Micheal...

Just quoting what I've read on here,.......... not from experiance

and when they say,........."out of the blue" it means they don't know why or couldn't find cause of death. Of course there's always a reason.

parameters are good, no other fish is sick or dying, all "seems fine" but gar is dead,.........................................

i'm assuming there was no apparent physical damage? maybe it got spooked at some point and rammed the glass? a well established fish dosnt normally just die that fast w/ out some sort of trauma. anyway...very sorry to hear of your loss. good luck w/ the remaining two.

Micheal,
If you could (and get a chance) would it be possible for you to PM me over some information? In particular: Tank size, fish size, Tankmates, Water changes, filtration, diet and if you have any water test results and behavior notes..

We have noticed some rather interesting things popping up with this new batch of Tropicals so I'd like to look over your data and compare it.

Anyone else with information on the above from the H2O shipment I also ask and would appreciate as well ...

Then simply do not say:

If you just basing things on anecdotal second hand references it really does not do much good and it just spreads false and misleading information.

IME it is very uncommon to lose a fish like this and I personally do have extensive personal experience with Gar.
