WTF?!?!!? WHAT WITH MY PLECOS SCALES?

I have a common pleco had him for a around 1 - 2 years his scales look different now is this normal?. It looks like the scales have more texture to them.

i had a common and a sailfin.......they bot got to be close to 2' long......i noticed as they got older they grew more of these bristle things around his mouth and pectoral fins.........so i'd say they are just aging and it's normal......get some pics are they changing color at all or swelling up like he has bloat??
