Is it possible in a 450+ gallon aquarium for one little shiner to die and in about 24 hours cause my perfect new water to hit .50 Nitrite 40 ish nitrate, and light green ammonia (lost color chart)..??? This is the Armatus tank. The filters were pulled from an established 220 gallon . Is it possible that it might be going through a cycle anyway?

How long was the water in tank. My water in Pittsburgh already has some nitrate in it staight out the tap. You might want to check the water before you put it in a tank.

no, the dying shiner's body could not cause that spike in that amount of water. you'd never be able to read that low of a level of dilution on a normal aquarium test kit.

for some reason, the tank has begun to cycle, but it may not last long if you have established filters. the existing bacterial population is a bit stressed, hence the spike, but they should recover quite quickly and those spikes should disappear in no time.

if the bacterial population was handling everything fine on a 220, it will be fine on the new 450..

it a day or two it will probably read zero...it shouldn't take long.

Cool, I hope it doesn't take long. I think the tanks been setup for 4 days now? Something like that. I never checked the tap. I will check it out.
