I did a water change in my 110g last night. When I came back into the room (approx 15 min later) my emperor cichlid was upside down at the bottom of the tank, dead. He has been in this tank for about 4 months now. He was 7'' compared to 3'' when I put him in. I did a 20% change the same way I have always done it. The temp of the water was fine (80` outside). All of the other fish in the tank are perfectly fine. Does anyone know what happened to him so I can try to prevent this from re-occuring? Thanks for the help.

check ammonia... and others parameter... might be ammonia poison? You can bring some of your water to the fish store like petsmart and they'll test it for you for free

take it easy man...

Most likely ammonia poisoning... test your tap water for ammonia levels

ok ill test it....it most likely came from the water. what are my options to avoid this from happening? I use the same water for my 30g 55g and 90g also. thanks for the help again.

Uhm, the best way is to test your tap water at every water change, but that isn't always an option, those little test strips get expensive! If it was chlorine in your water, they make plenty of chemicals to detox it, also you can just fill jugs of water up and let them sit atleast 24 hours..not sure of anything else to do.
