I have a 3-4 inch thinbar that does nothing but hide all day. I have a piece of driftwood and he would only come out to eat and go back in. If I take the driftwood out, he will try to find some way to hide behind the heater. Is there anything I can do to make him feel more confident in his tank? he is currently living alone. Do you recommend any type of fish be his buddy?

Get more thin bars to make it more comfortable...I have a group of Indos and they have nowhere to hide so they swim around more and barely hide.

mine is in with other fish and usually stays in his driftwood but as he is growing and getting more confident he comes out more. i also keep the light off over his driftwood cause they come out more with less light i have noticed. when i had more then 1 he was the only one that didnt get messed with by the others so if you do decide to get another expect to see some bullying.

I have 2 NTT (never stable) that come out to eat and greet me when I come to the tank. I have another NTT (that is stable almost 90% of the time) that hides all day and won't even come out to eat unless its feeders. I'm hoping adding some IT in the tank or perhaps a school of silver dollars will help boose their bravery.

I have a 8.5" ST that acts the same way! Its scared of my 12" asian aro and likes to hide beside the heater very still so he wont get attacked. I think he's gonna have to go in his own tank soon.

all 6 of my datnoid are cool with me standing near da tank lol 4 of them are 3~5"

if you have hiding places they will use them no matter how big they are

in the wild a tiger will hide then snap at prey as it goes past

no hiding places in my tank and no hiding tigers

4 inch thin bar 4 inch NGT with 18inch aros and rays they don't hide because they don't have anywhere to hide
