hey. got back from the lfs. saw the softshells that were burried in the sand last time i was there. they were a little over silver dollar sized, andlaws light brown in color, and had large dark brown spots on it. the only other ones i have seen have been whitish-grey, with maybe a few black tiny dots on it. might buy one

Brown? could be a chinese softshell, we catch em in the streams in Hawaii.

Florida. They get MASSIVE. And I mean MASSIVE.

Did they have a yellow ring around the edge of the carapace and a slightly oblong shell? That would be a Florida. Some subspecies of spiny softshells have larger spots, but Floridas are all dark brown and splotchy.

Males are still far too big for the average herpkeeper. And its very hard to tell before they reach adult size. So when you find out, its too late to guess.

well it is very tiny now. wish i could get a pic, but no digi camera. thanx for the help so far
