Come X-Mass time i will be upgrading to a 200 gal tank.I really, really want a Jardini. The tankmates will be 2 Oscars a Orange Pike and a plain Pleco, could this work out???Jardinis are really tough to come by around here so i want to make sure these fish will work out alright,if not i will just get a plain Silver A.Your input is appreciated!!!:headbang2

I just got my big tank set up today for my Jardini, so I'm probably just as excited as you are!

Anyhow, my arowana is about a foot or so long. Jardini's can be rough, mine has pretty much kicked the snot out of anything I try to put with him (except an endli. bichir and a big pleco). I've had a redtail catfish with him, but he doesn't like the RTC anymore so I'm trying to sell it now. Also, after my tank is finished conditioning, I'm going to try to introduce some datnoids the day I move the Jardini into the bigger tank. But we'll have to see how that works out.

Oops, sorry for rambling. But essentially, it's really up to the arowana. Jardini Arowanas seem have highly developed personalities, so deciding on tankmates is pretty much a flip of a coin. You really just have to see if he'll get along with them. Also, Jardinis tend to get more agressive once they're almost half grown, so keep that in mind also.

As for silvers, well they can pretty much get along well in any monster community tank. They'd be the "safe bet" but not nearly as cool in my opinion. :naughty:

P.s.
Make sure none of your fish can fit into the other fish's mouth, that's important either way. So nothing that can eat your jardini, and nothing your jardini can eat.

:iagree::iagree: I have my Jardini in with others but at my lfs there are 2 in there for sale because the kick the sh*t out of ever fish they've been with..It really does depend on the Jar....Silver or Black (if you have the cash)might be a safer bet...

I've kept a Jardini before too and they are pretty mean, likely resulting in a single specimen tank. It seems like most people who choose to keep them and grow them out end up keeping them solo. However, there are always exceptions-- but based on my experience, if you are looking for a community tank, you may consider a silver or black aro, as they seem more tolerant of other tankmates. Just my two cents. :)

My Jar lives with a JD, a Red Snook, and a group of polys. He occasionally beats up the red snook but mostly leaves everyone be. He's been living with them since he was big enough not to fit in thier mouths and I think that has a lot to do with the success of the community. But then again he is only about 10" right now so I am waiting to see if he suddenly flips on his tankmates as he matures...

I would definetly go with a silver if you REALLY want tankmates but having owned both, I'd take a Jar any day.

Introduce the fish you want apart from the Jar. You may then add a Jar and see how things pan out due to being the last in the tank and thus the 'small guy'. If things dont work out, take the JAr back and purchase a regular arowana.
