Hello everyone,
Here in Australia majority of the P. Multifasciatus stock we have posses the xanthic gene. Is there anyway to tell if a fish has it or not before it changes colour? If one/ both of the parents show the colour change will the fry all 100% eventually change? Does anyone know what brings out the change, or is it simply age of the fish?
Thank you

You’ve got to post pictures.
I don’t believe we have those in the US. At least I’ve never seen them

Crazy! I have never seen these before. They go blind? I have never heard of xanthic jags or dovii go blind so why would these.

I am not sure, there is a email thread on another forum that talks about it. Thought I’d ask and see if anybody knew anything about it

Unrelated to this species but I have one denison barb out of 9 with the xanthic gene.
A couple of times a year she'd completely change colour, each time a completely different look.
One year she showed up yellow with black stripes like the clown loaches in the tank. Other times she'd just get patchy looking. Then she'd completely turn back to normal color slowly. There's no way I would have known had I not seen the subsequent change but it seems in my case the fish reverts back to normal color for majority of the time. She surely is not blind either.

I think you've done well just tracking these fish here in oz, where did you get them if you don't mind me asking?
