Boy was I surprised to see eggs stuck to my wave maker in my Xantos tank. They must have been pushed out of one of the breeding caves quite a while ago based on the amount of fungus on them and gotten sucked up by the wave maker.
There are about 6 Xantos in the tank with about a dozen (or more) royal loaches. The 4mm eggs look the same as the ones in a female I lost from breeding fighting. Also the royal loaches at under 9" could not be the source (not mature until > a foot or 2 and never bred in an aquarium.
I don't think the eggs are viable and the empty egg cases are probably from the loaches eating them. But I put a few into egg tumblers just in case and can hope a little Xantos is hiding somewhere in the tank.
There are more Xantos in the tank that I couldn't see even for crappy pictures.
Looks like I'll have to move the royal loaches to another tank and see if I can get some baby Xantos. Wish me luck.
