It has now been one week since receiving my F1 Xilo from Rapps. I have to say that I absolutely love this fish, and am very happy with my purchase. I would like to do periodic updates of him on this page.
Some Notes:
Personality/Behavior: Jeff's website says it best about these guys; "not shy at all". My Xilo constantly watches me, follows me, and analyzes what's going on in the room. He eagerly accepts 3mm NLS pellets and would eat them all day if he could. As for aggression, he shows none towards me (at least not yet). If I hold one of my dogs orange squeaky toys up to the tank he flares his gills and defends his territory. However, he recognizes me as the primary food source, therefore responds to me more like a hungry dog would at dinner time. I'm interested to see if this changes as he matures and becomes more comfortable in his tank.
Size/Shape: Another forum member hit it spot on when he/she said that these guys are very thick. Mine is a hair over 6" and already a good 1-1.5" thick. Also, you can definitely tell by the pictures that he is going to be a very tall-bodied fish (similar to a Midas, but not as large). As far as a Nuchal Hump goes, he does not currently display one. This will also be interesting to see in terms of development, because he has no competition/females to impress.
Coloration: This one's a bit tricky to determine. I've read about these guys completely changing color as they mature into adults. Some stay white, some are barred, and some develop color and/or patches. If I had to guess, I would say that this guy will eventually turn 80-90% white. There is some orange patching (especially on his face) that seems to be peeling. I have to say, this is the one aspect of the fish that I am looking most forward to (simply because I have no idea what his adult coloration will be).
