alright thanks bro.. I just saw someone post a picture on the net of a sub adult female xingu 1 that looks identical to my female cobra or what was supposed to be a female cobra. I will have to post a picture later for clarification...

Yup thats definately a cobra, not a xingu I. Wish the LFS around here would even get pikes, let alone mislabel them..congrats!! Looks like you got a semifascitus as well! :D Love the Bagarius yarelli! :D

Sweet!!! That's what I thought. Those pictures were from a few months ago.. THe cobra whom I believe to be a female has really put on some size and has a very red belly. There is a definate white line across the top fin (dorsal)? and white on the two pelvic fins. She is freakin mean though making my 14" Tigrinus always stay in the corner. I already moved the semifaciatus to the dorado tank because he wouldn't stop harassing the Tig.. Anyways thanks for the clarification guys I shouldn't have second guessed myself..

Xingu is just a river in South America where the fish was collected. Xingu cannot be used to determine species, just location and variants of that fish species.

Did you sell it to him Brandon? Just curious, cuz a lot of species of Crenicichla as well as Cichla are ID'd by their collection area. There are several pikes that have the location as their name, Crenicichla sp. 'tapajos I', Crenicichla sp. 'tapajos II', Crenicichla sp. 'xingu I' , Crenicichla sp. 'xingu II', Crenicichla sp. 'xingu III'. If you want to get fancy there are pikes like Crenicichla marmorata 'Rio Tapajos'....;). Pikes vary in their coloration depending on their collection area, just like Pbass...:D. Xingu I and the other xingus are normally collected from the Rio Xingu area...so you are partially correct! :D Xingu I, xingu II, xingu III are all scientific names of pikes though...so they are used to determine species.

BTW...how is your business doing man? Haven't talked to yaz in a while. The LFS takin your stock? I saw that Fish Store still has my hybrid cat...haha.
