I really love the xingu III pike-its probably in my top 10 favorite fish. It's stunning red/pink belly on its black body really amazes me. But as most of you know it's illegal. So I want the next best thing- a lookalike. Anything with a black body and a similar body shape is fine, but a red/pink belly would be awesome!

Why are they illegal ? Not really into pike so I didnt know this but what makes them illegal and other pike okay to have?

Johanna? Oliver at below water pointed out a pike that looked exactly the same but I can't remember it!
Have a look at Crenicichla cametana. They are a black rock-hopping pike that looks like a X-III (sort of).
What about Crenicichla hu? I'm dying to get my hands on and old fashioned Xingu I...

Idk about belly blotch but they get bright orange in dorsal, haven't seen enough Hu to tell you about belly marking. I just don't recall any other black bodied pikes like Xingu III.
