I wonder were the name Xmas fulu came from. Xmas might be from the colours but what does fulu mean?

Thanks, I’m not sure where fulu came from, but many Victorian haps are called fulu, like the tri color fulu

Ok, now when you point it out I think I understand.
Fulu might be a different spelling of furu due to phonetic similaritiesof R and L in some of the local languages. I just didn't saw the obvious connection.

Does furu have a meaning? I’ve wondered how they got the name fulu as well.

The locals call all the small, bony and economically useless haplochromines in kisuaheli as furu/furus. Ichthyologists are using the term furu to describe the cichlids endemic to lake victoria.
But I don't know what the term means directly translated.

I think fulu, furu and nkenge are local names for the haplochromine cichlids in Lake Victoria since there are many dialects used.
