It shouldn't be a problem to go buy appropriate sized clear tubing from lowes and use it for my intake & outtake hose correct? I'm getting a used xp3 from a member here & it appears that the only problem is the missing hoses.

Also...I have to do filter media on the CHEAP for now...would filling the trays with the scrubbies work fine? Might just have to rinse them out once a month or so?

I eventually plan to fill it with ceramic bio...half a tray of fluval pre-filter in the bottom, all ceramic and (maybe) half a tray with mechanical pads. In addition I'll have 1 or 2 aquaclear powerheads with the 1micron quick-filters running all the time...with regular maintenance those should handle the mechanical just fine.

1. I have replaced the hoses with hardware store tubing before with no problem. The only real issue is that the hardware store stuff isn't nearly as flexible.

2. I am running quite a few of these with scrubbies and don't have any problems.

3. You should be good to go.

Thanks pharaoh. Hopefully I'll have this thing up & running tonight, heater should come in on friday and my fish will be 20x happier.

if you go to a pluming supply store you could get stuff cheap and they would have every type of material hose known to man(just saying because why get something that isn't too flexible.... just bring in the old hose and they can get you the best thing... i would try for some hose like the FX5... i love my rena to death but the hoses are clear and since i have the tank by a window on a steal frame...i think i'll be doing the same thing as you guys within the next week.....

Ah I'm not too worried about it being clear or being this or that. For now, so long as it WORKS and its CHEAP...I'm cool with it. The tubing is only ~$0.30/foot and I only need probably 8 or 9 feet. Not too worried about flexibility either, there isn't much bending required in the setup.

Eventually I might try and do something better, for now I just need to get it up & running as fast as possible.

No matter what hose you get it you nuke it or throw it in some hot water for a short period of time they loosen up considerably.... Just sayin...

sounds good.. good luck!

Yup...DEFINITELY planning on heating it up one way or another before trying to install. Learned that lesson once, once is all I need

I might actually put them in a bucket & pour boiling water in anyways just to be safe on killing anything they might be carrying. 2 birds with one stone anyways.

Ya'll could have told me about the hot water trick before I spent 45 minutes putting the return set-up together on my sump set-up. :( 1/2" ID hose over barbed fittings on two ends was retarded.
