XP3+ Seachem Matrix

I apologize if this is a stupid question but do you put the rocks in a filter bag or just dump them in? On the back it says "Matrix™ is sufficiently large that no filter bag should be required for most applications" but I'd like to hear from XP3 owners on what they did.

Mine is put directly into the basket. Also rinse the matrix off, it has powder on it and will make the tank a little cloudy.

also how big of a jar of the matrix do you need to fill a tray?
