Since BPs are not a legitimate species, but a line-bred mutation of a real species (maybe Amphilophus, or combination of species) many traits belonging to Amphilophines may occur in the mutants bred BPs.
Many Amphilophines of the great lakes in Nicaragua change color as they age.
as different genes kick in (sic)...manifest those traits). Some get stripes, some get dark blotches, some stay pink, etc, etc.
Any of these combination can occur in BPs because of its ancestral lineage.

Its what they do when stressed. They will go from deep red to like almost yellow and blotchy or even black blotches. They will be fine by the sounds, just stressed from the move :)
