if you gently handle them alot when they are young if should curb their aggression when they are older
PLEASE oh PLEASE do your research FIRST. It could be the worse gift he could give you if you do not research first. These animals get pretty big and required a lot of space. If you cannot provide this I would HIGHLY recommend not getting one. Start with something small. ESPECIALLY if this is your first reptile.
Iguanas can be mean or even dangerous if:
1-they arent properly socialized, cared for or treatened like any other animal
2-If they are in breeding sezon even the best behaved ones can became beasts from hell, specialy males but also females
3-Like any other animal each one has its own personality and its line of tolerance, if that line is crossed they can became agressive
Ive got a copple of igs and both are very docile but only if I behave in a certain mater when Im interacting with them. My female doesant like: to be toched in the tail, sudden moves, to be disturbed early in the morning or to be grabed without warning(wich is basicly toch her really slow in her feet untill she relaxes and then she is puppy tame). My male doesant like to be toched in the head and loud noises. One of the most important things to remenbar is that igs take alot of work to properly house, feed and socialise and they arent by any means a begginer reptile. You must do alot of reserch and if you fell you are not prepared refrain your boy friend from buying the ig. There are more then our fair share of unwanted igs out there. By the way if someway you fell its the rigth pet for you insted of buying one why not adopting one insted? That has ALOT of advantages
You will know your new pet personaly and likes and dislikes before you get it. Also I see frequently spayed females looking for a new home wich I think its the perfect begginers ig, all the good personality of the female ig without the problems of egg laying
