My house
My nano tank seems to be cursed. I keep managing to get foreign liquids into it. This time, I accidentally knocked over my DIY CO@ and did not notice for hours. When I did notice I emptied the water in the tank, removed the substrate, washed it, and cooked all the substrate at 300 degrees Fahrenheit overnight.

I thought that this would have killed all the yeast that was propagating in my tank. It's been three days and all my fluorite has finally settled but my tank is milky and when I smelled it it was as if I have a bakery in my bedroom.

Does anyone have any advice on how to kill this stuff so I can get my fish/plants out of the five gallon bucket and into my tank?

If it is yeast, high temperatures will normally kill yeast. Other than that, short of sterilizing everything, you need to git rid of what ever it using for a food source. If you need to sterilize keep in mind it will also be living in your filter and when you restart it will need to cycle again.

Really easy. A cloud of daphnia will eat every suspended bacterium within days.

Awesome. Do you think that I could just ad a bit of the starter culture directly into the tank?

I assume that since the yeast is already in the tank, this would work fine but I thought it maybe best to ask fist.

This sounds like the perfect idea since I have a school of Endler's waiting to populate the tank. This way, they will have a feast upon arrival.

Yeah, add as many daphnia as you have and they'll reproduce quickly enough with all that yeast and eat it all. Can't guess an exact time frame since there are are so many variables, but I can give a moderately-populated daphnia culture a pinch of yeast twice a week and they clear it out within those 3-4 days.

Never thought of that. Good idea. I learn something new every day.

Unfortunately, I cannot find a local source of daphnia cultures. Is there anything else that might be more easily accessible that might be able to eat the yeast?.. Ghost shrimp or something like that?... snails? I called all of the fish store even remotely near me and I only found brine shrimp....would brine shrimp work?

Buddy really easy solution that this doesn't happen again, I"ll try to explain it the best I can. I'm assuming your using a 2L pop Bottle for your DIY Co2. Attach another smaller 1L bottle to the 2L and fill it 3/4 of water sort of like a bubble counter. take the TUbing from your Co2 and make sure the end goes into the water of the 1L. Then on the 1L add the tubing going into your diffuser in your tank place the end of this one up onto the lid in the air. It's super easy the co2 will rise in the 1L going thru the Tubing into your tank. I guess this might not help if you knock over the 1L and 2L but just an Idea.

As for the Yeast in the tank. Waterchange Waterchange Waterchange.

Yeast is a fungus so anything designed to treat fungal infections will wipe out any yeast.

A daphnia culture is prob your best bet though.

Also the yeast population will run it's food supply out very quick as they can only metabolize sugar and there is very little if any sugar in normal tank water.
