Hi all. Another n00b question I suppose. This one has me stumped. I was doing some research hoping to answer my own question but it seems the issue I am having usually occurs in pools and not the home aquarium. And if it does I am reading it's typical for SALT water. I am cycling a tank to breed RCS (red cherry shrimp) I didn't add anything to the water other than some ph down and some tap dechlorinator. Well it's been cycling for about a week now, the past 2 days I've noticed this yellowish (more yellow than orange or brown) algae growing on the bubbler hose and the front of the tank. Other refs say it's called "mustard algae". I don't know if it's because I keep the light off but I didn't think it was needed when cycling, I never had to in the past. What if anything can I do to control this?

Thanks in advance for any tips, advice, or suggestions!

It is diatoms. It can happen naturally. I wouldn't worry about it. It occurs a lot in new tanks. Just scrape them off.
